The Dark Carnival, a formerly online retail store focused on indulging the fascinations of the anime, comic and gaming community, has brought every conceivable sub-culture of the ‘geek generation’ to life at its flagship store at Montecasino in Fourways, Gauteng.
The Dark Carnival is the brainchild of Kasia Jabrzemski, a self-proclaimed geek who in 2011 with the help of her business partner Richard Harman, realised the untapped potential to turn the mundane comic book store visit into an experiential audio-visual adventure for the anime, comic and gaming sub-culture by launching an online retail store.
“The opening of a bricks-and-mortar store takes the experience to the next level, giving everyone from fanatics to curious browsers the opportunity to immerse themselves in a colourful and fantastic anime, comic and gaming universe,” comments Kasia.
From comic books and graphic novels; to pop culture merchandise of your favourite anime, movie and TV series characters; video gaming; costumes for the cosplayer enthusiasts; homeware; kitchenware; character bobbleheads, figurines and plushies; and even laptop sleeves, The Dark Carnival is an adventure into another world.
The launch of the flagship store at Montecasino is hot on the ‘geek’ calendar radar. The much-anticipated dragon, which was custom-made to fill the space outside the store, is set to be a huge talking point. “We are excited to call Montecasino the new home of The Dark Carnival and to be part of Gauteng’s premier entertainment destination,” says Kasia.
