The Steyn City Foundation is bringing the spirit of Mandela Day to Diepsloot with the delivery of 3 000 food parcels to families in need.
Each food parcel comprises 10kg of mealie meal, as well as fresh produce, soup packets and tea. The Real Beverage Company has donated 3000 bottles of cool drink to the initiative, an added treat to the pack, while residents and employees at Steyn City have been asked to donate warm clothing and / or make a monetary donation to the foundation, both of which requests have been generously heeded.
“This Mandela Day marks a bittersweet occasion for us,” comments Giuseppe Plumari, CEO of Steyn City Properties. “Ordinarily, we would invite all our employees to participate in a number of community events. This year, however, we are limited by Covid-19 lockdown restrictions. Nonetheless, we are pleased that we are still able to provide support through our food drop with our proven COVID-19 compliant modus operandi.” Determined to take care of its neighbours, as it has done since lockdown was first introduced, the Foundation has made sure that the most urgent needs – for food and warmth – have been taken care of with donations of winter clothing and food. “Inviting our community to make donations was one way we could give them a chance to participate – after all, Mandela Day is a special celebration for all South Africans. As usual, our hearts have been warmed by the wonderful generosity of our residents and employees, and it gave us great joy to be able to distribute all their donated items on their behalf.”
