INTRODUCING MOSES ROMBAYI
Although Moses is not based in Fourways, we have seen a lot of people who are interested in his work and have asked where and how they can buy his beautifully made stuffed animals…
Lesley King recently posted to ILF about Moses and last week, he lost his 2.5 year old son, Bradley, under tragic circumstances. Lesley posted “I am looking to boost sales for him and am especially looking for corporates who can take on larger orders. These make great gifts for clients and is for the most worth of causes! Join and become a friend of Moses.”
We thought you may want to know a little bit more about Moses and his story so here it is…
Moses Rombayi lives in Orange Farm together with his wife Bertha and his child Mercy Ciera (aged 5) and sadly, as mentioned, tragically lost his 2yr old son Bradly. He got hold of some rat poison and could not be saved. It happened so fast…. Absolutely devastating! The rats are like cats in the townships! Pest control put rat poison down all over in an effort to control this…
One of nine children, Moses lost his mother at the tender age of 12 years old and this is when he became ill and contracted polio. Unfortunately, he did not receive timeous medical treatment but despite his disability he does not let this divert him from sharing his talent.
Moses has always had a very positive outlook in life and he decided to change his life, and in 2009 he moved to South Africa from Zimbabwe to start his career as a tailor.
It was during these initial years that he watched fellow seamstresses where he learnt and developed his love for toys. Toys bring a smile to people’s faces and he wants to share this happiness with the world.
He purchased some patterns, but they were very scarce, so he practiced making and perfecting patterns and the stitching thereof. He takes great pride in the quality of his toys. He uses fabric which is donated to him and purchases authentic African inspired fabrics to give true authenticity. All his toys have zips so the stuffing can be taken out for ease of washing. Toys have labels and washing instructions can be added where required.
His first toy was an Elephant followed by a Rhino and these continue to be the most popular toys to date.
The range includes Monkey, Giraffe, Hippo, Crocodile and Lion. Some of the animals have been made into bags with beautiful lining. Moses is so talented that if there is a pattern, he will make your toy to order!
In order to increase his productivity, Moses is looking to purchase two new sewing machines namely, an embroidery machine and a button hole machine. We are looking for sponsorship of these machines to take R&R Projects to the next level.
His dream is to sell his toys globally and to take his family on a holiday to the UK. Every Christmas, Moses donates
toys to charity in his quest to inspire the youth to believe in themselves and to follow their dreams, just as he did!
Toys come in three sizes and are costed as follows: Large: R250 • Medium: R200 • Small: R150
