If you have books lying around that you have been wanting to get rid of then now is your chance. Skoobs and Montecasino are challenging residents to donate books for underprivileged schools in Diepsloot in aid of World Literacy Month.
Says Lisa Sukdev, Montecasino’s Public Relations Manager, “Literacy is the foundation of communication … Literacy is the bridge from misery to hope. I strongly believe that literacy is the vehicle that will carry people out of poverty, we need to do everything we can to ensure children are literate and love reading and are able to pen their thoughts and ideas clearly. I know that the community surrounding Montecasino will give generously, I encourage parents to ring their children along when they donate the books, let’s teach them, from an early age to be socially responsible.”
Book depositories have been placed in Skoobs book store
Mike Page, GM of Montecasino, says it’s a privilege for the precinct to be in a position to contribute to improving literacy in local disadvantaged communities. “It’s a reality that disadvantaged schools in South Africa are unlikely to have well-stocked, fully-functional libraries. This book drive will make many books available to four Diepsloot schools, increasing the chances of improved literacy for many local children.”
