The journey of Ava-Lee Artistry

I started my business at the age of 23 while being a mother and finishing off my business studies.

The journey started off teaching art from home and then taking the dive to get a bigger space and have my art studio.

The journey was tough! finding the perfect spot came with enormous challenges that were overcome by the determination to succeed. Moving from place to place trying to find the perfect art studio.

I focused on different art mediums My passion for watercolor paint evolved my business into something bigger than I expected. I found the most beautiful little Quaint spot tucked away in the Free Range Lifestyle Center with the most peaceful atmosphere where my art studio just flourished.

My focus became clear that the joy of watercolors needed to be experienced by many more as the medium was unappreciated and modern techniques was so far behind in this country. Art needed to be experienced by not just the super talented and gifted as a self-taught artist my dream was to get even the most Novice to hold a paintbrush with confidence. From workshops, kids classes and full-time classes my studio grew to levels I thought only possible in a few years. I then decided that people needed affordable art supplies and that’s where our lovely little retail section grew. From paintbrushes to sketch kits, we try our best to provide it all so that when the watercolor bug bites you can leave any workshop with all your materials to paint at home.

While teaching I also sell many artworks and commissioned pieces as well as prints of my artworks. I am constantly working on my technique, And trying to build my name as an artist and business owner. I am motivated by the fact that people walk into my studio and I watch the days stresses fall off their shoulders and they leave feeling happy and accomplished. Yes, we come to Ava Lee Artistry to tap into our creative side but most importantly we come to de-stress make friends and leave all our worries at the door. Going home feeling lighter and happier. Some days are filled with more talking than painting which I love. I have seen little friendships grow in my lovely little art studio. While the hustle and bustle of Fourways are around us we are tucked away finding time for ourselves and our creativity. I love my studio with all its creativity and friendships that have grown along with it.

I am also grateful for the impact that the I Love Fourways community had on my business over the years it truly shows a community pulling together helps us small businesses thrive.
